Reasons to Visit the Hood River Valley this Fall

Fall has arrived and there is a subtle change to the air. Have you noticed? We sure have. The vine maples, the first to show their fall colors, have started to change. It won’t be long before the brilliant colors in the Mt Hood National Forest and the Columbia River Gorge begin their seasonal performance, thanks to cottonwood, big leaf maple and western larch that light up the forest in red and gold.

You’ll bask in nature’s wild, uninhibited painted landscape. You’ll wake up with Oregon’s tallest peak shining bright at the end of the Hood River Valley, maybe even witness its first dusting of snow.  After harvest, over 15,000 acres of fruit trees put on quite a show, too. There’s the Fall Festivals and the local award-winning wineries’ crush kick off.

Columbia River Gorge was noted as the third best spot in a recent foliage destination list, right behind Aspen and the Catskills! But we’ve known about the foliage show for a long time. Add the colors of the Mt Hood National Forest and the acres and acres of fruit trees and you will be in awe with the splendor. Nothing says “fall” like the blazing red, glimmering gold, and burnt-orange leaves that cover trees and crunch underfoot during the autumn months.

Harvest in the Hood River Valley and Columbia River Gorge – There are just no words to describe what it’s like to spend the harvest season following your taste buds on a Culinary Travel Vacation through the Hood River Valley and the Columbia River Gorge. If you could put all of Oregon on a plate, the flavors would combine into one of the most delicious ambrosias you’ve ever tasted. Sample the flavors of our region, one bite, sip or scent at a time

U-pick and tasting events – Immerse yourself in the full orchard experience with seasonal u-pick and tasting events! Wander through rows of lush apple and pear trees and hand-select your own fresh, ripe fruit right from the branches. Each u-pick event is a celebration of nature’s bounty, offering the satisfaction of picking your own produce while enjoying the fresh air and scenic surroundings.

Hood River Valley Harvest FestivalFor over 40 years, the Hood River Valley Harvest Festival has brought together farm-fresh produce, artisan goods, local food and drink, and live entertainment for three days of autumn magic along the Hood River waterfront.

Cycling the Hood River County Fruit Loop and its quiet back roads, opens up a world of gorgeous scenery, handcrafted beers and ciders, farm stands, museums, and wineries. A network of excellent cycling roads winds through the valleys fruit orchards.

Take a hike and chase a waterfall or two. How about grabbing a few geocaches?
