Multnomah Falls is a breathtaking waterfall located in the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon. It’s one of the most iconic natural landmarks in the Pacific Northwest, standing at a height of 620 feet (189 meters), and has more than 1.3 million visitors a year taking in the views. The falls are fed by underground springs from Larch Mountain, creating a stunning two-tiered cascade.
Plan your trip to Multnomah Falls (Exit 31 I-84) with a Timed Use Permit
We recommend you plan your visit to Multnomah Falls by purchasing your permit in advance or visit earlier in the day to avoid the crowds. Starting May 26, 2024 through September 1 a timed use permit will be required to access Multnomah Falls from Exit 31 off of Hwy 84 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily. Timed use permits will not be required on the Historic Columbia River Highway/U.S. 30 in 2025. However, this route is extremely congested in the warmer months and parking is limited at the small lot along the Historic Highway/U.S. 30 at Multnomah Falls.
Multnomah Falls permits are available On Line Here for a $2 transaction fee per vehicle. A limited number of permits will be available for pickup without a fee at the Gateway to The Gorge Visitor Center in Troutdale and Cascade Locks Historical Museum in Cascade Locks.
Option 2: You might want to consider taking public transportation to the falls.
Are permit reservations already full? Don’t want to deal with trying to find parking? Consider leaving your car at home. There are multiple direct and hop-on, hop-off shuttles to choose from, with parking pick ups in Troutdale, Corbett, Bridal Veil, and Dodson. Or, you can take the Columbia Gorge Express which stops in Portland, at Multnomah Falls, in Cascade Locks, and in Hood River. Timed Use Permits to Multnomah Falls are not required if you choose to ride the CAT Columbia Gorge Express, Gray Line Open-Air Waterfall Hop-On Hop-Off Trolley, Sasquatch Shuttle, or others. Consider choosing one of these other tour services, some of which host large group tours into the Gorge.
