Breweries in the Columbia River Gorge Unite
By: Mary Pellegrini
Lunch and a brew at Big Horse Brewery in Hood River
What might you be doing this St. Patrick’s Day? Beer is serious business in the Gorge. So serious that 12 Breweries in the Columbia River Gorge have united to create Breweries in the Gorge. Pick up a passport at any one, we have them here at the Old Parkdale Inn, then visit 10 of the twelve and receive a collector’s pint glass. We’re finding their food menus are pretty good, too.
Solera Brewery is a small brewery located in the historic Valley Theater, in Parkdale, down the street from our Old Parkdale Inn Bed and Breakfast. Try a Hedonist IPA, one of their seasonal beers, or a wild and sour fruit beer aged on local fruit. Gaze out over pear orchards toward the craggy North face of Mt. Hood from our patio. Around the first of April Solera and Apple Valley BBQ celebrate their days of opening with a joint Stout effort. Smoked hops from Apple Valley become Good Smoke Stout at Solera. Stay tuned for information this release and the SoLog Summer Fest 2017, happening in August in Parkdale’s Clear Creek Station.
Be sure to explore the world of craft beer and fine brew pubs. And don’t forget the annual Hops Fest, last Saturday in September in Hood River.
