One Step Greener
By: Mary Pellegrini
For years I have been composting, recycling, growing organic vegies and raising our own organic meats. When our kids were little we belonged to a preschool coop and every six months or so us moms would do a kids clothes exchange. We belonged to a food buying group, buying in bulk and dividing 50# of flour, huge wheels of cheese, 5 gallons of maple syrup. You get the picture. I’ve been doing it! It is second nature to us.
But having three kids who all participated in school activities and sports, we always had a big vehicle. Big, gas guzzling vehicles!! They were great for traveling to volleyball games or biology field trips. Good times. But I don’t even want to think about how much gas we consumed!!
Love My New Car!!
So we finally made the move to become that much more environmentally conscious. Two weeks ago we became the proud owners of a Ford Escape Hybrid! We’ve brought our environmental ethics into the running of the Old Parkdale Inn Bed and Breakfast and now, at 30 miles per gallon, I can finally drive a little more guilt free!
